The RIBCOR skates have been traded from Reebok to CCM! Living up to the reputation that Reebok skates have earned as being among the best out of box fit, Reebok has handed the torch over to CCM’s RIBCOR 50K skate to continue that tradition. CCM’s RIBCOR series was designed to give the player Mind Blowing Agility with the type of control that allows you to turn on a dime. They are easy to break in, offer good flexibility and of course allow for a unique type of customized fit through the use of its next generation pump, Advanced Pump® technology.
For those of you that aren't familiar with that technology, the Advanced Pump® allows you to control the amount of air that you circulate into the air bladders around the ankles, thus enhancing heel lock by eliminating negative space and giving you the option to adjust for fit in a matter of seconds between shifts. It is more efficient than its predecessor as it fills quicker and holds more air. The RIBCOR 50K has a tapered fit in the ankle and is slightly narrower in the heel and the forefoot in comparison to the Tacks and RBZ lines from CCM. You'll also find the Skate Lock feature on this skate, which allows for variability within two separate lacing zones - lower and upper.
CCM uses its RIBCOR Elite construction in the quarter. The EPP foam core reacts very well to heat molding, and will help reduce break in time. Also found in the core as part of its agility profile is a ribbed reinforcement just below the eyelets of the skate. This element had over 2 years of pro validation prior to product launch, and provides additional support and a stiffness profile that allows the skate to flex and move with you. The other two elements of the agility profile that contribute to forward and backward flexibility are the boot cut and the 13° forward lean (RBZ is 10°, while Tacks are 16°). Heel lock is achieved from a combination of a tapered fit in the ankle, the use of internal ankle foams, the Skate Lock feature and the Advanced Pump®.
The tongue is a thinner more traditional style tongue dubbed TriGuard, this is made of pro felt with lightweight EPE foams and has an external molded lace bite protector. The RIBCOR 50K has the ventilated full lightweight carbon composite outsole which helps reduce weight in a skate and provides excellent rigidity under the boot. This is where you'll find the SpeedBlade + 4.0 holder which is aptly named because of its additional 4.0mm height which provides a significantly deeper angle of attack for tighter turns. This is the same holder that was introduced on the CCM RBZ skates and also features SpeedRibs near the top of the holder, the structure of which helps increase torsional rigidity.
The nice all black tonal look of the RIBCOR 50K is complimented nicely with the corrosion-resistant SpeedBlade Black runner. In addition to just looking good, this blade also comes loaded with performance benefits. It has undergone a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process to give it a Titanium Carbo-Nitride finish - that's a mouthful, what does it mean? It increases surface hardness which translates to holding an edge longer and reduces the likelihood that it will chip or flake. Additionally, the high quality finish provides lower friction which in turn gives you a faster glide and more speed. Agility, comfort and performance come together in these sharp looking RIBCOR 50K skates from CCM.
