Brand new for 2018, CCM has overhauled their flagship Premier line and brought out the CCM Premier P2.5 Senior Goalie Blocker. Building off of the already successful Premier line, the Premier P2.5 has new specs and pieces of technology sure to turn heads. Continuing on the success of all Premier style blockers, CCM did not sacrifice their style and protection yet added new specs which create a different function. The first noticeable change is within the backhand wrist opening, now called the One Piece Cuff. The One Piece Cuff spec is a larger piece of foam that wraps entirely around the wrist and fills any negative space between the wrist and back of the blocker board. Goalies will notice this extra piece against their wrist, but it will not hinder mobility. Next, CCM has utilized a design which is friendly to the younger goaltender. The Premier P2.5 sidewall and index finger area is slightly oversized to still give the goalie the protection they are looking for without prohibiting the goaltender holding their stick. Another change was done to the sidewall of the blocker. Now, CCM is offering a true bindingless blocker not only on the face of the blocker but on the sidewall too. This provides the goalie with a very clean look, but it also improves the durability by removing the binding that used to stick out and get worn on the side of the stick. The board itself is made of thick foam with centered hand protection which gives the goalie a natural feel and balance on the wrist. This board is very thick and helps launch pucks into the corner when angled properly. Finishing off the blocker is CCM’s suregrip material which has a slight tack to it, ultimately helping the goalie with the best grip on their stick throughout a session. Last but not least, continuing on the weight reductions in the pads, CCM has reengineered the weight distribution and blocker foams to give a lighter feel on the goalies hand. This 24% weight reduction will allow for goalies to make even quicker blocker saves and easier stickhandling efforts. Building off of the already successful Premier line, the Premier II has new specs and pieces of technology sure to turn heads. The Premier P2.5 Senior glove has continued the perfect lineage along the CCM Premier yet has the new key features to give goalies extra protection and visibility into the pocket. Starting with the closure of the glove, CCM has kept the same break angle from the old Koho 590, the 60 degree break. This break allows for a natural hand closure while giving the goalie a good catching glove and a good blocking the glove. The One-Piece cuff will give the goalie a larger blocking surface for when they engage in a blocking butterfly, yet the palm will show a large physical shape to the shooter and allow for a natural catch. In the pocket of the glove, CCM has taken the massive success from the EF3 glove and added the Double Straight T as a stock option on the Premier P2.5. This pocket allows the goalie to completely see into the pocket and still yield for a soft catch. At the base of the spine of the T, there is a U shaped design which keeps for a clean attachment point and also promotes an easy break in and game ready feel right out of the box. On the Spines of the glove, they are also stiffened up a bit to help give a better shape and depth to the pocket which will give the goalie the maximum depth allowed to help cradle pucks. Internally, there is a new Velcro setup across the fingers to give a better fit on the inside of the glove. While the rest of the strapping setup will look familiar, this new strap across the back of the hand will create a better overall fit to keep the hand in the glove and give the best closure. Finishing off back of the glove, there is a large padded finger rail which runs along the fingertips which gives extra protection for not only covering pucks, but in the RVH blocking selection as well. This extra rail is a large piece of LD foam which gives that goalie the extra protection they need. The CCM QuickLite Hockey Elbow Pads are the flagship CCM QLT elbow pads and provide unbelievably lightweight, elite-level protection. The QuickLite elbows have a 3-piece design with floating bicep and forearm guards to allow the arm to move freely and flex without the pad getting in the way. This is also the only elbow pad in the lineup to use the extremely lightweight and protective Zotefoam®. Using Zotefoam®, the elbow pads are able to significantly cut down weight without sacrificing protection. The bicep guard uses the Zotefoam®, in combination with a molded HD foam to wrap around the upper arm and offer great protection. Along the outside of the arm, CCM also uses their Ventshield, which is an engineered sturdy plastic piece that's vented to allow air to flow through to the pad while protecting that area. Inside the pad, CCM uses Dry Foam technology to reduce the weight of the pad by using closed-cell foams that absorb less sweat. Bauer's Supreme stick line has been engineered to boost energy output making it ideal for the player that is primarily looking for strength and power in their shot. The mid-kick flex profile is softer in the middle, which makes it easier to load in that zone. The Supreme power dual taper makes for a stiffer bottom portion of the shaft which in conjunction with the Pure Shot Blade profile, an expanded throat design as you transition from shaft to blade, provides torsional stiffness in such a way that reduces the likelihood of twisting and torquing of the blade. Strength and power meet precision and control in the Bauer Supreme 190 stick. Unlike the higher end Supreme MX3, which is a true one-piece stick, the Supreme 190 uses a more traditional fused construction. In the shaft of the stick, you will find that Bauer has used a premium lightweight 12k woven carbon fiber. 12k carbon is even better at managing stress than 3k woven carbon fiber, which has been used in high end composite sticks for years. The Supreme line of sticks have a square shaft shape with double-concave walls which is preferred among pros. Enhancing the nice secure grip provided from the shape is the MX3 Tac-Spiral ridges on the underside of the shaft. The 190 is only available in the senior model but has two finishes to choose from: matte or Griptac. The blade core construction of the Supreme 190 is quite similar to that of the MX3. It uses Power Sense 2 - a combination of Power Sense core, Aero Foam 3 and SENSE material along the bottom edge of the blade. This blade construction reduces overall blade weight while improving overall stick balance and increasing blade durability where you need it most. The inclusion of SENSE material in this stick is a nice upgrade, considering that it is only found in Bauer's highest models in the MX3, Nexus 8000 and Vapor APX2. In addition to added blade durability, SENSE material is excellent at absorbing energy which translates to improved feel. The outermost wrap of the blade is the same 12k woven carbon fiber that is used in the shaft plus you will also find a bit of texture to the outer coating of the blade - an elite-level feature that provides improved puck feel with pass reception. The Bauer Supreme 190 is a very high performance stick with several features and construction that can also be found in the flagship MX3 stick. Given its performance attributes and enhancements in durability, this is an elite-level stick with excellent value. Definitely worth a look. Les mer
