The CCM Jetspeed FT380 ice hockey skate offers some elite-level features at a performance-level price point. This model is 4mm taller than in years past, allowing for a still more aggressive turn radius. CCM uses its geometric SpeedRib design in the SpeedBlade 4.0 holder, which exploits the power of triangles for a stiffer, more stable performance. This means players experience less torquing and more power transferred through each stride. The SpeedBlade holder includes SpeedBlade stainless steel runners for excellent bite and durability. The FT370 outsole is a reinforced, injected, and vented model. This outsole is stiffer than outsoles at lower price points, for better energy transfer. The vent allows moisture to escape the boot, so it stays drier during the game and dries quickly afterwards. The quarter package on the Jetspeed 380 is CCM’s RocketFrame Composite model—the same as in last year’s top-of-the-line Jetspeed. This year, the boot features the SpeedCore II for elite-level stiffness—a very nice feature for a performance-level skate. CCM cores bake well and will give any shaped foot a customized fit and feel. The boot also features Smooth Contour Pro ankle wraps to alleviate high-ankle abrasions. The FT380 tongue is upgraded over the 370 tongue with thicker foam. The tongue includes additional thick foams down the center for a pro-styled feel. The embossed guard helps alleviate lace bite and protects the top of the foot from pucks and slashes. The FT380 interior has been upgraded with CCM’s premier Total-Dri liner to wick away unvented moisture, and offers superior abrasion protection. The liner’s DuraZone abrasion patches at the top of the boot help extend the liner’s life by reducing the wear that typically results from shin guards positioned beneath the tongue. Smooth Contour collar pads also help reduce high-ankle abrasions, and multi-density memory foam ankle pads comfortably lock the skater’s foot into the boot for better control. The FT380 features CCM’s Anatomical Response footbed with a thin layer of foam but an ample contact area between the foot and the skate. The fit profile of the FT380 is medium volume, like all Jetspeed skates. It has a slightly narrow forefoot and heel thanks to CCM’s well-known heel lock and a more tapered toe. While the instep is a standard medium volume, the overall fit is a little more snug, just right for players with in-between-sized feet. The Vapor family of skates continues to be the most popular family within Bauer's 3-fit platform. Although still considered a Vapor skate, the X200 goes a little outside of the typical “Vapor” fit. Instead of the standard V-fit profile (standard width through toebox, narrower fit in the heel and ankle) we are used to seeing on the Vapor line, the 200 is less snug and closer to a classic style fit. Unlike its other Vapor counterparts, the X200 features only a sublimated premium nylon quarter package and will not have the OD1N concept skate-inspired thermoformed X-rib pattern. And although you cannot heat mold this skate to your foot, the quarter package will still provide adequate support during tight turns and quick cross overs. The Tacks 6092 skate offers up a huge value at its price point. Although this is not the absolute top of the line model, many of those top tiered features trickle down to the 6092 to provide a comfortable and high performing skate for elite skaters. More importantly, CCM altered the fitting characteristics of this Tacks line to be more anatomical right out of the box. Getting right into the boot construction, CCM used a high end, textured, and layer-formed boot frame that has that metallic mesh look. It has strategic reinforcements used to promote elite level support with effortless energy transfer, combine all this with the Tacks AttackFrame composite core and you get a boot that is lightweight, rigid, and thermo-formable to give an anatomical and customized fit all around the skate. This fit profile provides a close fit in the heel and ankle with a medium width throughout the boot. Like the Super Tacks, the 6092 features CCM’s premier skate lining, TotalDri Liner. This is a lightweight liner that wicks away moisture very quickly and works well with the vented exhaust system placed on the outsole of the skate. These features work together to push any moisture out of the boot, keeping the skate even more lightweight and comfortable. On the inside, symmetrical multi-density memory foam pads wrap around the players foot to further enhance the customized fit and overall comfort. Another nice little feature are the smooth contour comfort pads found along the neck/collar of the skate to alleviate any pressure put on the ankles during turning. Moving to the tongue, CCM used a 7mm traditional felt tongue equipped with reinforcement layers to increase comfort around the front of the ankle as well as providing excellent protection with an injected lace-bite protector. Lastly, we see the SpeedBlade 4.0 Holder which provides an additional four millimeters of height (when compared to the older E-Pro holder) mounted to the 6092. This holder allows for a greater angle of attack and more aggressive turns. Complementing the SpeedBlade 4.0 Holder is CCM’s SpeedBlade Stainless Steel runner. The FT360, like all Jetspeed skates, is a medium-volume skate, but its fit shades toward the tighter side in the heel and forefoot.
