Common sense design. Since much of a skater’s power derives from the inside of the foot, the new boot dimensions deliver a better base of support and improved energy transfer. Combined with the flexible tongue, the Vapor 1X quarter package promises skaters a better attack angle for maximum stride power. The lace eyelet system in the top-end Vapor has also been updated for improved, locked-in stability. The top of the boot features a comfort edge wrap to reduce abrasions from the rigid 1X boot. And the 1X includes a Curv Composite ankle support—a feature found only in this skate—for a lighter, stiffer response. The 1X tongue is a 3-piece, FlexLock Pro model with class-leading thickness and comfort. The newly added thermoformable composite material down the tongue center not only offers excellent impact protection, but also promises a custom fit once baked. The 1X comes with Bauer’s Lock-Fit Pro liner with memory foam padding for comfort. The slightly abrasive liner will help lock the skater’s foot to the boot, thanks to its dual-zone texture. The liner has a tacky upper for stability and a smoother lower portion for premium comfort. The 1X footbed is an Anaform Speed Plate with Ortho-resin technology. The speed plate is fully thermoformable for a customized heel cup and arch support, helping balance the skater’s weight across the boot, heel to toe, for maximum power efficiency and custom comfort. The Tacks 6092 skate offers up a huge value at its price point. Although this is not the absolute top of the line model, many of those top tiered features trickle down to the 6092 to provide a comfortable and high performing skate for elite skaters. More importantly, CCM altered the fitting characteristics of this Tacks line to be more anatomical right out of the box. Getting right into the boot construction, CCM used a high end, textured, and layer-formed boot frame that has that metallic mesh look. It has strategic reinforcements used to promote elite level support with effortless energy transfer, combine all this with the Tacks AttackFrame composite core and you get a boot that is lightweight, rigid, and thermo-formable to give an anatomical and customized fit all around the skate. This fit profile provides a close fit in the heel and ankle with a medium width throughout the boot. Like the Super Tacks, the 6092 features CCM’s premier skate lining, TotalDri Liner. This is a lightweight liner that wicks away moisture very quickly and works well with the vented exhaust system placed on the outsole of the skate. These features work together to push any moisture out of the boot, keeping the skate even more lightweight and comfortable. On the inside, symmetrical multi-density memory foam pads wrap around the players foot to further enhance the customized fit and overall comfort. Another nice little feature are the smooth contour comfort pads found along the neck/collar of the skate to alleviate any pressure put on the ankles during turning. Moving to the tongue, CCM used a 7mm traditional felt tongue equipped with reinforcement layers to increase comfort around the front of the ankle as well as providing excellent protection with an injected lace-bite protector. Lastly, we see the SpeedBlade 4.0 Holder which provides an additional four millimeters of height (when compared to the older E-Pro holder) mounted to the 6092. This holder allows for a greater angle of attack and more aggressive turns. Complementing the SpeedBlade 4.0 Holder is CCM’s SpeedBlade Stainless Steel runner. The SpeedBlade 4.0 holder is joined to an injected and embossed plastic outsole that includes a bottom vent for moisture release. The vent helps keep players’ feet dry during the game, and speeds up dry-times afterwards. The embossing adds additional stiffness for increased energy transfer. The FT360 quarter package comes in CCM’s synthetic composite shell, with a foam core for increased stiffness over the FT350 model. The stiff shell helps improve stride power, and the foam core, together with the composite shell, molds to the foot for a shorter break-in time and a more personalized fit. The boot includes a semi-flexible tendon guard with double stitching for improved durability, and comes with a thick, 7mm., two-piece felt tongue for a comfortable, anatomical fit and feel. The tongue is upgraded with center-injected foams and includes an embossed lace guard. Combined, these features offer better protection for the top of the foot from pucks, slashes, and lace bite. The FT360 boot features CCM’s DuraZone patches at the top of the quarter liner to help reduce abrasions caused by shin guards. If you wear your guards beneath the skate tongue, they often wear into the quarter package interior—a problem the DuraZone patches address. The rest of the liner is a heavy-duty microfiber material that’s comfortable and soft to the touch, and does an excellent job wicking moisture not released through the skate’s bottom vent. The FT360 comes with CCM’s Anatomical Response footbed, giving players a contoured fit for excellent support and comfort. The FT360, like all Jetspeed skates, is a medium-volume skate, but its fit shades toward the tighter side in the heel and forefoot. If you’re a person with an in-between-sized foot, Jetspeeds might be perfect for you. The upgraded, performance-level FT360 skate offers a lot of value in an eminently affordable package.
